There has been a lack of knitting going on in my house. I have had a terrible upper respiratory infection and that has had me in bed for about a week. Needless to say I have been to worn out to keep up with the knitting. The most that I have been able to accomplish regularly since the beginning of the month has been the daily installment on my Sky Scarf. It is entirely up to date and here is a picture of the progress.
At the beginning of the month I did make an effort to get caught up on the afghan squares. I am only 6 repeats shy of finishing the second February square. For a few days in a row I would knock out about two or three repeats. Once it is finished I do still have both March squares to start and finish. My goal is to have all three squares finished by the last week of this month and then go to the LYS and renew for the next quarter. There was an announcement that we would be getting into some slightly more complicated patterns for this quarter. I must admit that I am nervous about that, but I am going to make every effort to try each square. We are able to go to the LYS and get mini tutorials if we need to for any new technique encountered in the square. That is a wonderful feature of the Afghan Club, even though I haven't had to utilize their expertise yet it makes me feel better knowing that I can.
One thing that came out of me being sick and in bed is that I finished a book! It is funny but once I became pregnant with Sarah I stopped reading as much as I used to. One reason is that I took on a lot of knitting projects while pregnant with her and so there was just less time for reading since my hands were full of yarn. I did hit a hot streak of reading for a little while right around the time she turned one. I read all of David Sedaris' books of essays as well as all of the Yarn Harlot's. I also finished the V. C. Andrews book that I started right before Sarah was born. That book, Dark Angel, is the second in a series of five about the Casteel Family. I started Fallen Hearts, the third of the set, right after finishing but my bookmark is halfway through and resting still. Not to mention that I have yet to finish Strangers. So, back to what I actually did read...
I may have mentioned that I picked up The Cat Who Could Read Backwards last month or so. It is the very first of the Cat Who books and I have read it once before. I picked it up on a whim because I wanted to read a bit about Qwill and Koko again. I truly adore the series and it has been quite awhile since I have visited with the characters. I only intended to read a bit and put it away and get back to the books that I need to finish or that are on my to read list. However, once I started I realized that I could no longer remember how that book played out. It is a mystery novel and it piqued my interest and I had to stay with it. It was a great feeling being able to finish a book after not having done so in so long. I hope I will be able to add a few notes of reading in the coming blogs, I do miss it.
