Malabrigo March

My afghan squares are coming along a bit behind schedule.  I did finish both January blocks by the time the February kits were released, however the first February block took me until last night to complete.  We have had a stretch of rainy and humid weather and it has been playing havoc on my joints making me unfit to knit.  In a feat of strength last night though I did finish the first block for February and one repeat of the second block.  The second block for February is really neat as it looks like cables but really isn't.  i am happy to also be using the pink zinnia colorway for the first time.

So that is what has been going on with my knitting but what is more interesting is what is coming up for March!  I am going to take part in a little event known to the knitting and ravelry communities as Malabrigo March!  In essence it is a cast on mania event where knitters and crocheters cast on projects with the Malabrigo yarns during March.  There are prizes involved but the most fun is the community of it all.  I will be participating in four knit-a-longs!  I have never been part of a knit-a-long before!  I am going to be knitting 2 cowls, a shawl, a pair of mitts, a hat, and a baby cocoon.  The shawl and the cocoon are not technically part of any group knitting but they will be made with Malabrigo yarn.  I am excited about this for another reason besides the event of it.  i will be using a good bit of stash!  That is exciting for me because it makes me feel glad that I had it built up to begin with.  To see the yarn go to worthwhile projects is really cool.  Also i cannot wait to start working on all the projects because I will be using so many of the bases that I have not tried and everything is a different shade which will be fun too.  I was able to purchase a yarn swift and ball winder this month and so those two investments are already going to good use!  They are a little tricky to use at first you really have to work on a steady rhythm when winding (who knew?), but it is getting better with each yarn cake wound.
I hope to finish a couple of the projects i start in March by the end of March, but we will see what happens.  That is quite an undertaking I have signed on for with two afghan squares a month to boot!  I guess I won't be getting any reading in for a while yet.

  1. It's kind of funny to read this today. I've just recently made two coffee sleeves with some Malabrigo Rasta that I bought and had no idea what to do with. I thought I would love hugely chunky yarn. While I could sit and pet it all day, it's really not that fun to actually work with.

And yes, in answer to the comment you left me, I have read the Sookie books. Of course, I haven't been keeping up lately so there could be a book or two out that I haven't read. I know there are some Kitty Norville books that I'm behind on. Come to think of it.. there are quite a few series I should check on... (:
