Today I finally finished my very first pair of fingerless mitts. I took a class to learn how to make It's a Snap Handwarmers in July of 2011. In the class I cast on the first mitt and learned how to knit using the magic loop method. Sadly it took me until last week to finish this first mitt. However, I made up for it by finishing the companion so quickly. I made them using a skein of Malabrigo Twist in the sealing wax colorway, and although they are a little roomy I love them!
I also finally signed up for the Afghan Block Club at my local yarn store, Really Knit Stuff. The club will publish two patterns a month for distribution to the various members and along with the patterns we receive two skeins of Stonehedge Fiber Mill Shepherd's Wool in the colors we chose when we signed up. This month was the first month and the first installment of the club is for Jan, Feb, and Mar. I chose four colors: pink, zinnia pink, milk chocolate, and brown. For January I am using Pink and Milk Chocolate. We also got a sweet little gift in our project bag this month. I am using size 6 needles and have finished 2 repeats of the pattern for the first given pattern. In the future months I have a goal of being done with the first block by the 15th of the month and the second square by the end of the month, so I don't fall behind. This month since I didn't sign up until the 14th I am going to try and finish block one by the end of this week and the end of the month for block two.
while I was in the yarn store picking out my colors on Saturday I ran into a lovely Asian woman. She was wearing two lovely drapey cowls that she knit using mohair yarn from the shop. I have been wanting to work with lace and mohair for a while now. Her color selections were so lovely that I had to buy the yarn right then. I bought one skein of white with sequins throughout and one skein of a plum wine colored mohair ( the other one she was wearing was a white and pink blush mohair held together). She knit the cowl holding the two yarns together and knitting on a size 10 needle. I have already wound the yarns into a ball together so that knitting holding the yarns double will be a little easier. I hope it works, it was just a random idea I had, I don't know if other people do this or not. I just decided it would be easier to take the time and wind them into a ball together rather than try to keep two balls unwinding at the same time while knitting and keeping an even tension. I got my needles out for this tonight and put them into a project bag along with the yarn so I hope to cast on tomorrow.
I will find out the gender of the baby to be on Valentine's day! I am looking forward to knowing the gender so that I can start knitting little things for the baby. The first project I want to knit is a cocoon. I plan to make a sleep sack for a friend that is due one day before me as well, and she also learns the gender that day! Super excited about this!
Well no reading since the last update, but I have had a nice cup of tea each day this week. Until next time...
