First Annual Halloween Socks

Have you all noticed the Halloween inspired colorways included in the recent shop updates?  Do these colors just make you want to put a hat or pair of socks or maybe even a scarf on the needles or hook right now? I know they were calling my name! I have already chosen a skein of P-branes and Galactic Ghoul dyed by String Theory Colorworks for my first annual pair of Halloween socks. I was not sure which colorway would get cast on first, but I definitely had hopes to have one pair finished by Halloween 2013.

I decided on the Galactic Ghoul since that was the first colorway that gave me the idea for this annual endeavor.  I wound the yarn a few days before October and then waited until October 1st to cast on.  I decided that I wanted to use a simple enough pattern that would work up quickly but not get monotonous by being plain vanilla.  A raveler brought a pattern to my attention and that is the one I decided to use.  The pattern is available for free here.

Here is my cast on photo.  I cast on the first toe and worked on it while watching I am Legend.
This is my progress shot after the first week of working on it a little each evening if I found the time.

I decided that the socks may go a little faster and be done near the same time if I worked on both of them in intervals.  Here you can see that I started the second toe and watched the movie Carrie.  I made sure that the first sock was already to the point of adding waste yarn for the afterthought heel before beginning sock 2.  Just so I would have little milestones to know when to switch to working on the other sock.

Here is the current state of the pair.  I have a little less than a week left now, so I am going to have to focus on these if I plan to finish them by Halloween.  The probably could have been finished but I have not been working on them exclusively throughout the month.  For this final week I will make sure they are the only thing I work on.
