The New Year is upon us and I have successfully finished another knitted gift this week. I started and finished a cowl for my Aunt's birthday. She was born on Jan.1 at 12:04 and usually celebrates her birthday at this time each year. Since her birthday happens at one of the few times it is actually cold or at least cool in Florida I thought I would make her a cozy cowl.
I decided to use a skein of Lion Brand Homespun as I had a skein in Granite. She loves gray and accessorizes almost exclusively in neutral tones. The granite is a lovely classic gray color. I found a lovely pattern on Ravelry using this yarn specifically and although the pattern was written to work flat, I knit in the round instead to avoid seaming. It is a lacey pattern and a seam I thought would detract from the appeal. After a rocky start where I had to cast on three times, it finally started going a bit smoother. Although I will never knit with Homespun on bamboo needles ever ever again! I finished it in two knitting sessions and am ready to give it to her after the ball drops!
I still have not finished Apt Pupil but do have plans to read before I go to bed tonight. It would be nice to finish it before the New Year but I am not sure how much I have left since I am reading it on my Kindle and it is part of a four book novella collection. If I am as far as I think I am I will have just enough energy to finish it tonight. Then I can start 2012 by finishing Strangers at long last.
A few things I wish to accomplish in 2012: knit a pair of socks, knit a pair of fingerless mitts, knit an afghan by participating in the Block a Month club at my LYS, learn to knit cables, knit a cocoon for the new baby to come in July, get current on the Sookie Stackhouse series of books of which I need to read the last 3, read at least 12 novels in 2012, take part in the knitting circle at my LYS.
Happy New Year everyone!
