Now cables!

I have been quite adventurous this year with trying new knitting techniques.  I have worked a few different laces, worked from a couple of charts.  I figure, why not throw cables into the mix!

The yarn is a new base, it is still in the limited edition phase right now, but should become available as a permanent addition in the HaldeCraft HandDyed line this fall.  It is a wonderfully squishy Alpaca and Wool blend in an Aran weight.  This is one of the limited edition colorways, called Plum Dandy.

This is the pattern I am going make.  The Bellissima mittens based on Bella's mittens in the Twilight movie.  I have entertained the idea of knitting a muff to cover my hands since the first winter I became a knitter.  The thing that held me back is what to do with it when you don't need it on your hands, and not being able to do anything if you want to keep your hands warm.  Open the car door?  Have to take a hand out.  Drive the car?  Have to cast it aside all together.

I figured mittens would be better, but for a little while I was nervous about the construction.  I got over that when I decided I wanted this yarn to be mittens.  So, if I am going to tackle mittens for the first time, why not toss in cabling as well?

I think it is looking pretty good!  This yarn is a delight to work with and the cable used here is very simple, actually.

Maybe in a week or two I will have a finished pair to share.
