Shawls!

I wanted to make the Multnomah shawl from the first time I noticed the pattern.  I queued it.  I bought the needle.  I bought some Noro to use.  That was my first mistake.  Ugh, Noro.  Scratchy, twig containing, knot containing Noro.  Why do people rave about this yarn?  The colors?  Sure, they are pretty but I can name 5 other dyers with pretty colors and nice feeling wool.  So, alas it sits, still in a project bag somewhere I don't have to look at it too often.

With all the chatting happening in the HaldeCraft group on ravelry during this HaldeAlong we are having, the topic of rainbow colored yarn came up.  After a couple of days the call of my Another Bowl of Apples colored yarn was too much to bear and I knew it would look great with the Multnomah pattern.

The Multnomah is notorious for breaking up any awkward pooling tendencies a yarn may have especially if it is a busy colorway.  So, let me share with you my progress:

Isn't that working up just beautifully?  I think so.  Here you see I have already wound a skein of Shelled Pistachios in HaldeCraft HandDyed Andre to use for a few repeats of the feather and fan section.  I just thought adding a solid for a repeat or two would look pretty neat.

I was making such great progress on that shawl and with my various socks I talked about yesterday, that when I was continuously bombarded, erm I mean politely confronted with another raveler's use of Slave Princess that I could resist winding it no longer.  I decided I would use that yarn for the Hogwart's Express Shawl that is just so cute with the owl cables along the bottom edge.  However, I worried the Slave Princess would make the owls a bit difficult to make out, so I decided to use a skein of Irish Coffee for the owl portion.  Let me show you a few shots of this shawl in progress:

In the last photo there you can see that the Slave Princess and the Irish Coffee look great together.  On the Hogwart's shawl I am now to the point of working the cables and will need to add beads for the eyes.  I am making a trip to the bead store tomorrow to find those, and I hope to find a neat amber colored bead maybe with a foil lining so they will really stand out.  I'll let you know if I find what I'm looking for!
