Sit down while I tell you this. Are you sitting? Okay.
Once upon a time, there was a naive girl that loved to read. She read everyday and sometimes into the wee hours of the night. She often got drawn into series of books, especially suspense novels with a certain detective. She worked her way through all the Lincoln Rhyme novels, the Alex Cross novels, The Cat Who mysteries, and was well on her way to finishing all the King novels.
This young lady started to worry that she would soon not have anything to read. She made plans to work her way through some classics, some great literary pieces. She found a couple more authors, Peter Benchley and Ira Levin, and started working her way through all of their works. She added another series to the "to read one day" list, a rather long series of thick fantasy novels. She began to feel a little better. Like she wouldn't run out of things to read before the next books in the already read series' were released by the various authors.
She really did think that she would run out of things to read. That she would have to wander through the aisles of the book store or library and read dust jackets and look at colorful covers, just to find something worth reading until the next book came out. Was it April yet? November? Was King putting a book out that year? She was so so naive.
Yep, that's me. How in the world did I ever think that I would run out of things to read? I am so behind in every series. I have added so many classics to the once manageable list of classics, the one that used to fit on one notebook page, that just those books will take me until my dying day to get to.
That fantasy series? The epic one? I finally bought all the books in the series, all 11, I only need the 12th that was published posthumously. So I thought. Apparently, there were notes where Jordan wanted to go to finish the series. Notes that were given to another author to finish the masterwork. Now there are 14 books, so 3 I still need to buy and even then I may not know how everything ends.
Not to mention that now I am learning of all these great fantasy and science fiction novels that I never knew anything about before. My wanderings in the big books stores rarely lead me down that aisle. The Song of Fire and Ice? I'd never heard of it until HBO started the show. Now I have to read those! They should be great, a few friends are already reading them and await the next book in the series. The are rumors it may end with 7 books or possibly an eighth. I have four on my book shelf, all bought while season 1 was still airing episodes. Well, 3 seasons have aired and I haven't cracked the first book! I am so tragically behind!
Look, socks!
You see why I don't get any reading done?
