Hobbies of Yore, Part Two: Cross-stitch
Lots of tiny x's all in a row, building building until there is a picture. How neat is that? Sort of like the pixels for an image, but with fiber. I miss cross stitch. All the colors and degrees of a color of the floss. The fact that a hank of floss is only about 30 cents. I do not miss the squinting or the counting and the back stitch. I also do not miss the tension in my neck and shoulders as I lean closer and ever closer to the hoop and the stitches I am creating because of poor eyesight or bad light.
I guess with cross stitch I am more interested in the materials and the finished piece rather than the actual process. Although, this is not a hobby that I ever got so involved in that I wanted to create these massive pieces like some of the Angels I see people complete. I also never really cared about making any sort of sampler. I would still like to make a framed name and birth date piece for each of the babies, but it isn't something I see happening this decade.
I started this sunflower for my mom for Mother's Day of, oh, say circa 2004-ish. Yeah. So small, so simple. There is sits.
Here is a little musical one that I thought DD would like to have over her crib. Yep! Still in the plastic, I don't even know if the little music piece works anymore. The one on the right is a little bear for DS, that one at least made it out of the plastic and into a ziploc, but does not have the first stitch made.
I think this is a hobby I will definitely revisit, at least for those framed name pieces, maybe if I ever invest in that laser eye surgery.

I'd like to learn to cross-stitch one day. I started a little one once, but didn't get anywhere. My MIL makes awesome pieces and I would love to be able to do that.
